First recyclables are delivered to processing facility where they are hand-separated according to material, glass, aluminum, tin and plastic. Next, clean clean recyclables are baled and shipped to recycling markets where they will be made into a new product.
Dirty recyclables cannot be sold since they are considered contaminated. this increases landfill costs and the opportunity to reuse those items will bve lost.
What gets separated?
- Clean Wood
All brush and wood (including pallets) that are free of glue, paint, stain, wire and plastic go in the clean pile.
- Metal
All metal items including wire, empty paint cans, metal plumbing fixtures, siding, doors and window frames must be seperatd from other materials and placed in the metal pile.
- Aggregates
Bricks, mortar, concrete and paving materials can be left at the aggregate pile.
